Botanical Name: Firmiana colorata (Roxb.) R.Br. [Malvaceae / ex-Sterculiaceae]
Common Name: Scarlet Sterculia, Koushi (कौशी) in Marathi, Pinj in hindi
Location found: Charkop Sector 8, Kandivali west, Mumbai, Maharashtra

Koushi is a very interesting tree because every season it shows different appearance. During summer, it is in full bloom with scarlet red flowers. After the flowering stage, the fruiting stage creates beautiful shades of reds, pink, gold and silver. Late summer, new leaves start coming, and tree is full of reddish, greenish , deep brownish shades of tender leaves. In Monsoon, the tree is fully green and starts to show a mature green colour. This stage remains till winter, after which it starts shading the leaves and becomes fully leafless to bloom with scarlet red flowers again.

Everything about a tree is exquisitely beautiful if one looks closely, and with Koushi tree this beauty is exemplified. Flower and development of fruits and fruits are some of the most beautiful and strange looking things in Tree world.
