Tamilnadia uliginosa is a small tree from Rubiaceae family. I have seen this tree since childhood. In my native place there is a medium size tree near the house. In fact this tree was like a childhood friend, as we used to play near it, pluck its flowers and fruits. This is a solitary tree. It stands alone, other phendra trees do not grow near it.
In native language it is called 'Pendra'. Its various names still relate to this name : In hindi it is called Katul, Phendra,
The fruit is cooked as a vegetable in some parts. But in my native place, nobody used anything from this tree, neither fruits nor flowers were of much use to the villagers.
