Botanical Name: Firmiana colorata (Roxb.) R.Br. [Malvaceae / ex-Sterculiaceae] Common Name: Scarlet Sterculia, Koushi (कौशी) in Marathi, Pinj in hindi Location found: Charkop Sector 8, Kandivali west, Mumbai, Maharashtra Koushi is a very interesting tree because every season it shows different appearance. During summer, it is in full bloom with scarlet red flowers. After the flowering stage, the fruiting stage creates beautiful shades of reds, pink, gold and silver. Late summer, new leaves start coming, and tree is full of reddish, greenish , deep brownish shades of tender leaves. In Monsoon, the tree is fully green and starts to show a mature green colour. This stage remains till winter, after which it starts shading the leaves and becomes fully leafless to bloom with scarlet red flowers again.
